Amateur radio is a supplement, not a substitute, for hospital, EMS, or public-safety systems. It can provide a supplemental path for approved, non-sensitive status messages when normal communications are disrupted.
- Connect with the WATCH Coalition and the Mid-South Regional EmComm Net.
- Identify licensed amateur radio operators near your facilities.
- Participate in planned nets and simulated emergency exercises.
- Include amateur radio in your tabletop exercises.
Never transmit PHI, patient-identifying details, passwords, or confidential operational information over open amateur radio channels. FCC Part 97 rules may limit employer-related communications and drills, so review your plan before implementation.
